The Asahi Kasei DB-400 is a 0.4 mm step-index PMMA bare plastic optical fiber supplied on a 10,000 m reel. It is a fine, flexible end-glow POF grade used for decorative light points and short visible-light signal links. Luminous, color-temperature and mains figures found in supplier listings (6000 K, AC 165–265 V, IP68, LED) belong to the fiber illuminator, not to this fiber.
Product Overview
DB-400 is part of the Asahi Kasei PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) bare-fiber family. Light travels by total internal reflection through a transparent PMMA core surrounded by a lower-index fluorinated-polymer cladding — the standard step-index POF structure. At 0.4 mm this is one of the thinnest Asahi grades, chosen where a very fine, flexible light point is needed. FAQ
What is the difference between DB-400 and thicker Asahi grades?
They are the same PMMA step-index POF family in different diameters. DB-400 is 0.4 mm — very fine and flexible for delicate light points, with a small 8 mm minimum bend radius. Thicker grades such as DB-750 (0.75 mm) and DB-1000 (1.0 mm) pass more light and are easier to handle on reel.
Is the 6000 K color temperature or AC input part of the fiber?
No. Those describe the LED illuminator / light source, not the PMMA fiber. The fiber only transmits light; its own relevant values are diameter, NA, attenuation and bend radius.
Can you cut the 10,000 m reel to a custom length?
Yes. We supply by the reel and can cut to order. Tell us the total length and end treatment you need.
