This is a high-power SMA905 fused-silica (quartz) optical fiber connector for 2000 nm laser, medical and military light delivery. The quartz fiber and SMA905 metal coupling handle higher optical power and temperature than standard POF.

Quartz/silica light guides with SMA905 are used for high-power laser delivery, medical illumination and rugged military optical links. The SMA905 threaded coupling gives repeatable, high-retention power delivery.
This is a glass (quartz) fiber application, not POF; the ferrule bore is matched to the specific quartz fiber core.
